NEW DELHI: The Indian Army and the govt have debunked a series of reports, especially from Pakistan-sponsored social media accounts, in the last 11 hours that claimed that Chinese forces have “defeated Indian troops and advanced nearly 50 km into Arunachal Pradesh”.Rubbishing these claims, the Indian Army’s official fact-check account on X said on Saturday, ““Several suspected Pak-sponsored social media accounts are circulating misleading claims that Chinese forces have severely defeated Indian troops, advanced nearly 50 km into Arunachal Pradesh and established PLA control over Indian territory.”“Coordinated inauthentic behaviour exposed. These false claims are being amplified in a coordinated manner to promote a misleading anti-Indian Army narrative,” it posted.Identifying the handles spreading the false propaganda, the ministry of electronics & IT (MeitY) said in the same post, “Six handles have been identified as circulating the same content between 1506 hrs on 06 Nov 2026 and 0146 hrs on 07 Nov 2026: @SongWeilonzob1; @letmehandleyou1; @_Finding_sarah; @DarkReal09; @War_Updates5; and @sumit_sarkr.”Exposing the disinformation pattern, the Indian Army described the narrative as a combination of “fabricated military defeat, exaggerated territorial incursion, unsubstantiated PLA control claims and misleading anti-Indian Army narrative. Cautioning the social media users, the Army’s fact-check account urged the public to verify border-related claims through credible and official sources before sharing them.Similar claims of incursions were made on social media last month too. In Oct too, the Indian Army had rubbished a series of videos on social media that falsely claimed that Chinese troops have taken control of some areas in Arunachal Pradesh. On the fact-check account on X, Army had then also debunked a deepfake video circulating on social media that falsely attributed remarks regarding China taking control of areas in Arunachal to Lt Gen Girish Kalia. The Army also clarified that a TikTok video of the exercise in Kazakhstan was being circulated with misleading claims that Indian and Chinese troops were facing off in Arunachal Pradesh. In a third post, the Army had pointed out that Pakistani propaganda accounts were circulating a digitally manipulated video falsely attributing remarks to a former Army Commander on Arunachal.Regarding the fake video on a Lt General, the Army fact-check post had said: “A digitally altered video is being circulated with fabricated remarks attributed to Lt Gen Girish Kalia, claiming that China has taken control of Asaphila, Longjou and Taksing Circle in Arunachal Pradesh and that the Indian Army has been denied essential supplies. The misleading video attempts to portray fabricated statements as a leaked admission by a senior Indian Army officer. The video uses Synthetic Generated Information to falsely attribute remarks to Lt Gen Girish Kalia.”
