Berhampur: Govt on Wednesday decided to relocate the families of Gadipabali, a hilltop village under Ganjam district’s Baibili panchayat, after the remote village was hit by massive landslides following the heavy rain after cyclone Arnab made landfall in Andhra Pradesh on Oct 28.There were at least three landslides on Oct 28 and 29 that claimed two lives, while 10 others went missing. The small village has only nine families with 26 people. While 14 persons have survived as they moved to R Udayagiri in Kandhamal district, others might have been buried under the debris.“We have decided to relocate the persons who survived in Ganjam and Gajapati districts. They will be rehabilitated as per their own choice,” said revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari. On Tuesday, the survivors consented to relocate in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts.“Govt has pulled out the railway and mines personnel from the rescue operation. The search operation was stopped for a day on Wednesday. It will resume from Thursday, involving NDRF, ODRAF, SOG, DAV and fire services personnel,” said collector (Kandhamal) Vedbhushan.“During the five-day operation starting Oct 30, the mutilated and decomposed bodies of two villagers have been found. Even though the experts opined there was a remote chance to locate the missing persons, we will take the last chance to search for them,” said the collector. The NDRF team has indicated that they might have been buried under 9-ft debris, he said.
