Bhubaneswar: The decomposed body of an unidentified man was recovered from a secluded area near Kelu Charan Park in Bhubaneswar’s Gadakana locality on Wednesday, with police suspecting a foul play.Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M visited the spot and supervised the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the man may have died several days ago.“The body was found in an isolated area that sees very little human movement. Given the advanced stage of decomposition, it appears that the death did not occur recently. We are investigating all possible angles, including homicide,” the DCP said, adding that closed-circuit television camera footage from surrounding areas is also being examined.Parts of the body, found amid dense bushes and trees close to the boundary wall of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) campus, had turned black, and some bones were visible, leading residents to suspect that an attempt may have been made to burn the body to destroy evidence.Police, however, said the exact cause of death and the condition of the remains would be established only after a post-mortem examination. An officer from local Mancheswar police station said forensic and scientific teams examined the spot and collected evidence.Police have launched efforts to establish the identity of the deceased. Photographs and details of the body have been circulated to nearby police stations and missing persons records are being scrutinised. The body was discovered after a foul smell emanating from the area alerted residents of the nearby RPF colony and visitors to the park. They informed the police, who recovered the remains.
