Africa callingIAS officer Abdaal M Akhtar appears to have landed an overseas posting, at least on paper. An official letter meant for the collector and district magistrate of Angul, now spelt Anugola, addressed him instead as the collector and DM of “Angola”. Akhtar was quick to spot the rather ambitious typo and posted it on social media with a crisp update: “Transferred. Moving to Africa now.” A missing letter may usually invite a correction, but this one managed to move an IAS officer across continents.Skills on moveBusiness leader Subroto Bagchi may now be steering Karnataka’s newly constituted vision group for skill development, but Odisha’s skill story clearly continues to travel with him. Bagchi, who once headed Odisha Skill Development Authority, recently shared on social media his talk at Bangalore International Centre on Odisha’s “transformational work” in skill development. New platform, new role, different state, but when Bagchi talks skills, Odisha invariably finds its way into the presentation.Waste-side storyGarbage raised quite a stink at a recent BMC meeting, with corporators protesting over waste piling up in different parts of the city and demanding immediate action. As mayor Sulochana Das tried to address the uproar, the microphone reportedly malfunctioned, leaving her temporarily unheard amid an already noisy house. She later referred the matter to the BMC commissioner and assured corporators that the problem would be resolved within 10 days. One corporator, however, came armed with a Plan B — if the garbage wasn’t lifted, it would be dumped outside the BMC office. The warning drew laughter, though the civic body may not find the prospect quite as funny.Quick retortLaw and order apparently isn’t the only thing on senior IPS officer Arun Bothra’s radar. When an X user jokingly suggested he was doing PR for the Ambanis, the former journalist-turned-cop shot back with a line worthy of an ad pitch. “I don’t do PR for anyone. Ambanis probably don’t even know I exist. But if you can connect me with Mukesh bhai for a big, fat PR assignment, I won’t mind,” he quipped. Tough cop, sharp comeback and, apparently, room on the wishlist for one very well-heeled client.(Contributed by Team TOI)
