Two senior military observers have reported seeing a mysterious black triangular object travelling at an estimated 1,800mph over a sensitive site in the western United States earlier this year, according to a report released by the Trump administration on Friday. The observers described the unidentified object as unlike any conventional military aircraft. According to their account submitted to the defence department, it disappeared suddenly and silently within seconds, without leaving an exhaust trail or any other visible evidence, the Guardian reported. The object was said to resemble a delta-wing drone, with an estimated wingspan of between nine and 15 feet (2.75 to 4.5 metres). The report classified it as an “unidentified anomalous phenomenon” (UAP), the term increasingly used by military and government agencies instead of UFO.The location of the alleged sighting has been redacted in the report. The observers were described as having “extensive operational experience working alongside government agencies”.However, the document offers limited visual evidence to support the account. It contains nine identical images of a canyon, with small triangular silhouettes superimposed on the landscape to illustrate the object’s reported movement.

Pentagon’s UFO disclosures

The latest release is part of a series of documents made public by the Pentagon since May, following US President Donald Trump’s pledge to disclose previously classified information about UFO sightings and the government’s knowledge of potential extraterrestrial life.Trump ordered a broader disclosure in February, following years of public scrutiny and allegations of a government cover-up.In 2023, a former intelligence official told Congress that successive administrations had concealed information about UFOs and that the government possessed crashed alien spacecraft. Those allegations have not established that extraterrestrial craft exist. The pace of disclosures has slowed in recent months, with Friday’s release containing fewer than 25 text documents and no videos or photographs. While several earlier reports included photographs or footage of alleged sightings, the black-triangle account relies on observers’ descriptions and illustrative images. The report does not establish the object’s identity or provide independent evidence confirming the observers’ account.
