Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said a fresh low-pressure area will likely form over southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around Oct 23, even as dry weather would mostly prevail over the state till Oct 25.Manorama Mohanty, head of the regional IMD centre in the city, said they have, so far, hinted that the possible system would intensify. Dry weather would mostly prevail over the state till Oct 25; thereafter, rainfall activity might increase at a few places by Oct 27, Mohanty added. The low-pressure system is expected to form under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation, which now persists over the Gulf of Thailand and adjoining Thailand and Myanmar, and is likely to emerge in the north Andaman Sea.The forecast said that after the formation of the system, it would move west-northwestwards and intensify further during the subsequent three days.Though some models, based on a preliminary forecast, suggest the system may move towards the Andhra Pradesh or West Bengal coasts, an IMD scientist said a clearer picture may emerge after formation of the system and its movement. The state, meanwhile, witnessed light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Koraput and Rayagada districts in the last 24 hours. Padmapur in Rayagada recorded 30 mm of rainfall in the state during the period. Day temperature showed an appreciable fall of about 4°C at isolated places over the districts of south interior Odisha and rise of about 2-4°C at a few places.
