Kendrapada: A 35-year-old man was arrested in Jajpur district on Saturday for allegedly poisoning his 34-year-old wife to death. IIC of Panikoili police station Purnachandra Patayat said the incident took place on Thursday night in Bhakandari village under Panikoili police station limits. Mina Dhir died after allegedly being forced to consume poison.Mina’s father, Laxman Dhir of Badapatana village in Keonjhar district, lodged an FIR on Friday. He stated that Mina married Nigam Das in 2019, and that her husband and relatives had allegedly harassed her since then for bringing inadequate dowry. The complaint alleged that they forced her to consume poison on Thursday night, causing her death.Acting on the complaint, police sent the body to the district headquarters hospital at Jajpur and arrested Nigam. He has been charged under various BNS sections and section 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act. He was produced in a court in Jajpur Road on Saturday, where his bail application was rejected. The court remanded him to judicial custody while police inquiries continue.
