Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s department of medical oncology on Thursday launched a breast self-examination booth to promote breast cancer awareness, support early detection and encourage women to play an active role in monitoring their breast health.The initiative was inaugurated during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by AIIMS Bhubaneswar executive director Ashutosh Biswas. He said early diagnosis is vital for improving breast cancer outcomes and stressed the need for awareness, timely consultation and regular self-examination to help women identify abnormal changes and seek medical care promptly.The portable BSE booth offers women a private space to learn the correct method of breast self-examination through simple instructions displayed inside. Sourav Kumar Mishra, associate professor in the department of medical oncology, said the department has treated nearly 1,000 breast cancer patients since it was established four years ago. Around 100 breast cancer patients visit the department every month, he added. Cancer fighters also shared their experiences, speaking about resilience, courage and the challenges of living with and recovering from cancer.
