Bhubaneswar: National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has decided to drop show-cause notices issued to all 15 teacher education institutions (TEIs) in the state.NCTE’s eastern regional committee (ERC) took the decision at its 410th meeting held earlier this month after examining compliance reports on faculty members submitted by institutions.Last month, NCTE warned institutions that their recognition could be withdrawn if they failed to submit details of their faculty members and their qualifications by Sept 29. The council has been seeking the information since Sept 2024 following a complaint filed in 2023 by one Lingaraj Pradhan, who alleged that ineligible people had been recruited by the department through Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) as assistant professors (teacher education) in different disciplines in govt-run teacher education institutions.The ERC reviewed the faculty lists approved by the respective affiliating universities, along with replies submitted by institutions in response to the show-cause notices. Following scrutiny, the committee concluded that no further action was required and decided to close the proceedings against all 15 institutions.Officials in NCTE said all 15 TEIs have faculty members as required under the prescribed guidelines. Besides, many are now pursuing MEd, which is also a requirement for assistant professor posts.The development brings relief to the higher education department, which has been operating these institutions.
