'PCS officer’ bride vanishes with 14 tola gold, cash after marrying AAP neta; 6 booked

FATEHGARH SAHIB: Fatehgarh Sahib police have booked a woman from Tarn Taran and five of her relatives for allegedly duping an Aam Aadmi Party functionary into marriage by posing as a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer and concealing her previous marriage.Police said the woman, a resident of a village in Bhikhiwind, allegedly left her matrimonial home on August 27 with 14 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs 1 lakh in cash.The complainant, Amarinder Singh Mandofal (33), an AAP Punjab joint secretary, Zila Parishad member and chairman of the Sirhind Market Committee, married the woman on February 10 this year. The Punjab assembly speaker and senior AAP leaders, including a cabinet minister, attended the wedding ceremony.According to the FIR, the woman claimed to be an executive PCS officer posted in Jalandhar and later said she had been given charge as additional deputy commissioner in Mohali. She allegedly sent forged government deployment orders and maintained an Instagram profile identifying herself as a PCS officer.Police said her family allegedly claimed ownership of 40 acres of land in Tarn Taran and told Mandofal that both her parents were dead, although her mother was alive. The word “Late” was printed before her parents’ names on the wedding invitation, police said.Mandofal became suspicious after the woman repeatedly left home, citing official duty, and later claimed that she had been suspended. When he sought her suspension orders to pursue legal remedies, she allegedly left the house.His subsequent verification allegedly found that she had forged her Class 10 certificate, PAN card and other identity documents to show her date of birth as June 18, 1992. Her original documents reportedly recorded her date of birth as June 18, 1980.Mandofal told police that the woman had married another man in 2007, had an 18-year-old son and had obtained an out-of-court divorce settlement of Rs 35 lakh. He alleged that these facts had been concealed from him before their marriage.Her family allegedly threatened to implicate Mandofal in false dowry and domestic violence cases unless he agreed to pay Rs 50 lakh as an out-of-court settlement.Station house officer inspector Rupinder Singh said FIR No. 240 was registered on Monday night under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 338, 340(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating, forgery, using forged documents and criminal conspiracy.The accused include Mandofal’s wife, her brother, mother, sister-in-law, cousin and a former village sarpanch.“No arrests have been made and the investigation is under way,” Inspector Rupinder Singh said.Mandofal could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.
