BJD seeks CEC’s resignation after SC clarification on Form-6 row
BJD’s Lekhashree Samantasinghar and Lenin Mohanty address the media in Bhubaneswar on Monday

Bhubaneswar: BJD on Monday renewed its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, citing Supreme Court’s clarification that the poll panel has no authority to amend Form 6 during the SIR process.Addressing the media, BJD general secretary Lekhashree Samantasinghar and media coordinator Lenin Mohanty alleged that EC’s Sept 26 clarification, which claimed that changes to Form 6 and the ECI Net system were made with Supreme Court’s approval, had now been contradicted by the top court.Samantasinghar claimed that around 13 crore voters were excluded from electoral rolls during the SIR exercise across the country and alleged that about 27.5 lakh voter names were deleted in Odisha. She accused CEC of acting in a partisan manner to benefit BJP and alleged that voter names were removed from electoral rolls through the ECI Net system.“The Chief Justice of India has rejected the Election Commission’s claim that the changes had the Supreme Court’s approval. The Supreme Court has also issued notices to the Union govt and the Election Commission,” she said, adding that CEC should step down immediately.Mohanty said Supreme Court’s observations had exposed alleged inconsistencies in EC’s Sept 26 press release. He alleged that the commission had misrepresented facts and reiterated the party’s demand for CEC’s resignation. The BJD leaders also repeated their allegations regarding the conduct of previous elections and accused BJP of benefiting from what they described as irregularities in the electoral process.
