3 held for immersion procession violence

Keonjhar: Three persons, including two women, were arrested on Saturday for allegedly attacking a police team from Ghasipura police station during a Khudurukuni immersion procession in Keonjhar district.A sub-inspector sustained injuries, while a constable suffered minor injuries in the incident that occurred on Friday night at Chaumuhin village under Ghasipura block.Sources said Khudurukuni immersion processions were being held across the area and police personnel had been deployed to ensure peaceful conduct of the events.Sub-inspector Kalpataru Nayak was allegedly assaulted for objecting to the use of a DJ system beyond the permissible time limit during an immersion procession at Chaumuhin. Police said Nayak asked organisers to stop playing the DJ after 10 pm, as mandated by law, triggering an argument with some participants. The situation subsequently escalated, and some people allegedly attacked the officer, leaving him injured. A constable accompanying him also suffered minor injuries while trying to contain the situation.Inspector-in-charge of Ghasipura police station, Mitali Biswal, said, “Three persons, including two women from the same village were arrested for attacking a police sub-inspector during the immersion procession. Despite several requests, they could not stop DJ, rather attack the police officer. Further investigation is ongoing.”Police said further probe is on.
