Berhampur: A 58-year-old railway gangman died after being struck by a Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam inter-state express train while carrying out track maintenance work near Chhatrapur railway station in Ganjam district on Friday. The deceased was identified as K Gobind Patra of Phasidi under Ganjam district’s Khallikote police station limits.Sources said a team of gangmen, including Patra, was working on the track between Ganjam and Chhatrapur stations when the incident took place around 11 am. He was working on the track while two other members were working some distance away. He might have come in front of the train suddenly. He was run over by the train and died on the spot, said govt railway police (GRP) Berhampur.A team from GRP Berhampur and the railway employees of the nearby stations reached the spot. “They recovered Patra’s body and sent it to MKCG Medical College here to conduct a post-mortem. The body was handed over to the family members,” said Santosh Kumar Bahinipati, IIC, GRP Berhampur. He said they have started an investigation to find out the circumstances under which Patra had died.
