Rourkela: The body of a 23-year-old man was found inside an abandoned car along Biju Expressway under Town police station limits in Sundargarh on Thursday afternoon, prompting police to launch a murder investigation after his family alleged foul play.The deceased was identified as Abhijit Naik (23), a resident of Rangadhipa in Sundargarh town.Police said Abhijit had left home on Wednesday night with a friend on a motorcycle and did not return. His body was discovered inside an abandoned car parked on the roadside on Thursday afternoon.After being informed, family members reached the spot and identified the body. Police subsequently seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family alleging that Abhijit was murdered, Town police registered a murder case and started an investigation. The body has been kept at the mortuary, and the post-mortem is scheduled for Friday. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.Police have detained a friend of the deceased for questioning.“Based on the allegation of his family, a murder case has been registered and investigation is underway. The friend of the deceased has been detained and is being interrogated. The post-mortem report will help ascertain the exact cause of death,” said N Mohapatra, sub-divisional police officer, Sadar, Sundargarh.
