Bhubaneswar: A 26-year-old woman on Thursday alleged that she was raped at gunpoint by an unidentified masked intruder at her house in Bhubaneswar late on Wednesday night, triggering concern among residents, with neighbours demanding enhanced police patrolling in the area.City police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. “We have got vital clues. Senior officers have been engaged in the investigation. The case will be solved soon,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M.Police sources said the woman lives with her elder sister in a posh locality of the capital city. “As per her complaint, at the time of the alleged incident, her sister was away from home,” DCP Saravana said.Her police complaint stated that an unidentified man knocked on her door at night. Soon after she opened it, he allegedly forced his way into the room, gagged her, threatened her with a firearm and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the spot.The owner of the house, who resides on the first floor, told police that he was unaware of the alleged incident. The survivor and her sister, both employed by private companies in Bhubaneswar, have been staying on rent on the ground floor for the last two months.Police are examining the survivor’s statement to establish the sequence of events and ascertain whether the accused had any prior acquaintance with the woman, despite her claim that he was a stranger.Officers are also scrutinising CCTV footage from the neighbourhood and nearby roads to gather clues about the suspect’s movements before and after the alleged crime. Besides, police are questioning residents.
