Balasore: A fire broke out at a bike showroom near Sahadevkhunta bus stand in Balasore town on Wednesday, damaging several motorcycles and scooters kept inside. No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident. Sources said employees and local residents noticed smoke billowing of the showroom around 9 am and alerted the fire services department. On being informed, fire personnel rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations.Three fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. After a prolonged operation, the fire was contained, preventing it from spreading further. Several motorcycles and scooters inside the showroom were reportedly damaged in the fire. The showroom reportedly had electric vehicle charging facilities and EVs, and officials are also examining whether an electrical fault associated with the charging infrastructure could have caused the fire.Assistant fire officer (AFO) Ajay Kumar Barada said a fire tender was immediately despatched after the department received information about the incident. Another vehicle followed and assessed the situation, while firefighting operations were launched by spraying water. A larger fire tender was subsequently brought in and the blaze was conytaioned completely brought under control.“Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. No casualty has been reported in the incident so far. The exact cause will be known only after a detailed investigation,” Barada said.
