Keonjhar: A massive landslide reportedly occurred late Friday night inside Hadagada reserve forest under Taratara panchayat in Keonjhar district’s Anandapur block, damaging a large stretch of forest land and triggering concern among residents.Officials said no human casualties or damage to habitation have been reported so far. However, the landslide is believed to have affected forest areas and wildlife habitats inside the reserve.The sudden collapse of soil and rocks caused debris to spill onto nearby roads and surrounding forest land, raising concerns over possible disruption to local movement and ecological damage.Local residents, many of whom depend on the forest and the surrounding hill for their livelihood, expressed apprehension that continued rainfall could worsen the situation and threaten their settlements, livelihoods and wildlife in the area.Revenue inspector Sanjay Perei, who visited the site, said the damage was confined to forest land. “Only forest areas have been affected due to the sudden landslide. No person has been harmed. Locals fear that if the rain continues, it could impact their livelihood, habitation and wildlife,” he said.Residents suspect incessant rainfall may have weakened the soil, leading to the landslide. However, officials are yet to ascertain the exact cause and assess the full extent of the damage.Anandapur sub-collector Nilamadhab Suna said the administration had not received a detailed report on the incident but had alerted local authorities to assess the situation. “Locals have been advised not to venture near the affected area until the situation is fully assessed,” he said.
