GUWAHATI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has warned that he will travel to Assam with other party members if co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka is not released after being detained by Assam Police.Dipke said Ranka was picked up from a private residence and claimed that the party had not been told the charges or grounds for his detention.“Ashu was picked up by Assam Police from a private residence. They have still not been told under what charges or on what grounds he has been detained,” Dipke said in a post on X.He added, “If Ashu is not released, I will go to Assam along with other CJP members. Himanta can arrest us all.”Ranka and several other CJP leaders and activists were detained in Guwahati on Sunday shortly before the organisation’s first regional volunteers’ meeting was scheduled to begin near the Assam Secretariat.CJP leaders said its senior leadership, including Ranka, Ankit Bhardwaj and Prem Aakash, along with Assam-based volunteers, were taken to a police facility in Guwahati.Police had blocked access to the proposed venue since morning, preventing volunteers from reaching the meeting site. The organisation had planned to bring together around 200-300 volunteers from across the region.The detentions came after the leadership of Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal met CJP leaders, including Ranka, in Guwahati.The meeting discussed issues including recent floods in Assam and CJP’s plans to expand its activities in the state.Ranka had alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was concerned that CJP’s campaign on schools would draw attention to their condition in the state.The CJP has also held discussions with prominent citizens and smaller regional political groups in Assam in recent days.
