Koraput: The Rayagada district court on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother in 2022. Rayagada district and sessions judge Damodar Rath convicted accused Dambu Huika under Section 302 of the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. In case of default of penalty, Huika will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.According to govt pleader Bikram Kumar Kund, the case dates back to 2022 when Huika allegedly killed his younger brother, Mindhuru Huika. Kalyansinghpur police registered a case, which was subsequently committed to the sessions court and tried.A significant aspect of the case was that the brothers’ mother had lodged the FIR against her own elder son in connection with the killing of her younger son. She also supported the prosecution during the trial and deposed before the court, said Kund.Considering the circumstances of the elderly mother, who lost one son, while her other son was convicted in the case, the court directed the state govt to provide her compensation of Rs 2 lakh, he added.
