Sambalpur: Four persons sustained serious injuries after a Ganesh idol came in contact with an 11-KV overhead power line during an immersion procession at Maneswar Pujari Pada under Sadar police station limits in Sambalpur on Sunday evening.According to Sambalpur Sadar SDPO Tofan Bag, the procession started at around 7.30 pm. After travelling nearly 200 metres, the iron frame of the decorated idol came into contact with an 11-KV electricity wire passing over the road near Harijan Pada.The contact triggered a sudden burst of sparks and caused high-voltage electricity to pass through the entire idol frame. Four persons who were carrying the idol and walking along the road suffered serious injuries.The injured have been identified as Manas Ranjan Guru (35) of Gurupali, Jaga Mahanand, 38 Ganesh Pujari (45) of Pujaripada, and Dayanidhi Sohala (32).All four were thrown away following the electric shock and suffered injuries. Jaga Mahanand, however, remained stuck to the idol for some time after receiving the electric shock and was dragged along the road for a short distance. He sustained deep injuries to both his feet and hands.
