Bhubaneswar: Odisha is planning an 870-acre semiconductor and electronics manufacturing hub at Naraj, located between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi pitching it as the state’s future “Silicon Valley”, even as Odisha received investment proposals worth around Rs 23,600 crore with the potential to generate 6,100 jobs during Semicon India 2026 in New Delhi on Friday.“Odisha is steadily building the foundation to become eastern India’s Silicon Valley. With an 870-acre land bank at Naraj, integrated infrastructure and strong multimodal connectivity, we are creating a future-ready ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturing and innovation,” Majhi said.Located along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor, it has access to Paradip and Dhamra ports and key national highways, positioning it as a potential hub for semiconductor supply chains, logistics and allied industries.With semiconductor fabrication and assembly units requiring large quantities of water and power, the site’s proximity to Mahanadi river provides a major advantage.Odisha’s semiconductor ecosystem is currently anchored around Bhubaneswar’s Info Valley cluster, with an investment pipeline exceeding Rs 45,000 crore. The govt sees semiconductors as a key pillar in building a “mind economy” alongside the state’s traditional mining-based economy.At SEMICON India 2026, Majhi said Odisha’s focus remains on attracting investments and fast-tracking projects. “The state has secured five semiconductor projects so far, all at various stages of construction, with one project completed and set for inauguration next month. The state is working with the Centre and industry partners to establish a major semiconductor laboratory for technology development, innovation and research,” he said.Claiming that Odisha ranks second only to Gujarat in the semiconductor sector, Majhi added the state is committed to attracting more projects and strengthening its position in India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem.Under India Semiconductor Mission, Odisha has secured two major projects by SiCSem Private Limited and 3D Glass Solutions, both under construction. SiCSem is setting up a silicon carbide semiconductor fab and integrated packaging facility, while 3D Glass Solutions is developing an advanced glass substrate packaging unit.The state govt has also approved five semiconductor projects worth around Rs 11,000 crore, expected to generate nearly 4,500 direct and over 16,000 indirect jobs. RIR Power Electronics, Sancode Technologies and ASP Semicon have also invested in Odisha’s emerging semiconductor ecosystem.On the sidelines of SEMICON India, Majhi met Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss investment, technology, innovation and skill development. He also inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion at Yashobhoomi, showcasing the state’s semiconductor projects, policy incentives, infrastructure and opportunities in chip manufacturing, packaging, design and electronics.During the event, the chief minister held a series of engagements with global and domestic semiconductor firms, industry bodies and international delegations, including those from Japan, Sweden and Taiwan. The engagements culminated in the signing of a Letter of Intent with QuadQuantum for a semiconductor facility to manufacture SiC substrate wafers.The state has been among the early movers in aligning its Semiconductor Policy with the evolving India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, with expanding support for critical segments of the value chain.
