Cuttack: To provide the emerging Odisha cricketers with a bigger platform to showcase their talent, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) is all set to kick off the inaugural Odisha T20 League at Barabati Stadium here on Sunday.Organised by OCA, a team each representing Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar, Puri, Rourkela and Sambalpur will take part in the league and will compete for the title with a total of 17 matches played between them from Sept 20-29.Two matches will be played at Barabati each day — the first beginning in the afternoon at 2.30pm and the second in the evening from 7.30pm.The tournament is aimed at giving the local players more exposure to competitive T20 cricket and before a wider audience. Barabati, which has nurtured generations of cricketers from the state, will once again provide the setting for the emerging players to display their skills.OCA secretary Sanjay Behera said the league would play an important role in creating opportunities for young cricketers from across the state.“We have made all arrangements to give the best platform to our state players. It will bring together talented players from different districts and provide them with an opportunity to play competitive cricket at a high level,” said Behera.”With six district-based teams playing 17 matches at Barabati from September 20 to 29, each day two matches are scheduled. We are confident that the league will help identify and nurture talented cricketers who can progress to the next level,” he added.Pankaj Mohanty, president of OCA, said, “Such tournaments are very important for the development of local cricketers. The players can gain valuable match experience, handle pressure and showcase their talent.With the six district-based teams formed for the league, the league is also expected to strengthen the connection between Odisha’s regional cricketing centres and provide young players with greater exposure to competitive cricket.
