Bhubaneswar: A maximum of 20 working days will be fixed for the audit of one financial year of a specific office, and auditors will not be allowed to conduct audits in their home districts to ensure objectivity, transparency and impartiality. The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting on audit-related issues chaired by Board of Revenue member Satyabrata Sahu here recently. Board of Revenue conducts audits of around 420 offices across the state, including those of revenue commissioners, district collectors, sub-collectors, tehsils and Bhoodan Yagna Samitis.Officials said auditors were often found to remain engaged in a particular office for months, creating difficulties for field staff in carrying out routine administrative work. The prolonged audit process had also left several offices unaudited. To streamline the system and bring greater transparency to the audit mechanism, Board of Revenue has decided to revamp the process and finalise a standard operating procedure for conducting audits.The board has also directed that offices where audits have been pending for a long time be taken up on a priority basis. The meeting stressed timely completion of audits and greater accountability, with officials saying the revised framework would improve efficiency and ensure wider audit coverage across govt offices in the state.
