BHOPAL: Nearly a month before a woman biker’s hit-and-run incident in Gurgaon sparked widespread outrage, 23-year-old Bhopal-based biker, Abida Rana, had faced a similar ordeal in the city, with two men in a car chasing her for around 600-700 metres, abusing and repeatedly blocking her way.The ordeal took place on Aug 2 on Nabibagh Road, under Nishatpura police station limits. Abida had shared a video of the Bhopal ordeal on her Instagram handle on Aug 5, which is being widely circulated now.According to Abida, she was around 5 km from home when on the Nishatpura-Nabibagh stretch, two men crossing the road allegedly stopped their car in the middle of the road near the divider and began abusing her without any apparent reason.One of the men allegedly shouted, “Ab nikaal ke bata gadi.” With vehicles behind her honking, Abida said she was forced to move around the car from the left side.The men allegedly changed course and started following her, and repeatedly blocking her way.Abida said she became panicked and angry and told the men that the police station was only 1-2 km away and warned them that she would complain if they continued following and threatening her.When she tried to drive away, the men allegedly blocked her path from the right side as well. She then drove towards the police station, claiming the men continued chasing her and hurling abuses. They left just before the police station.Later, the men were called up to the police station and cops warned the men not to approach her again and made them write an apology before allowing them to leave. No FIR was registered as Abida had opted not to pursue a criminal case, cops said.
