Bhubaneswar: Marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Thursday, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi urged the youth to dedicate a part of their day to social service, saying the finest tribute to Prime Minister would be a commitment to nation-building through selfless public service.Describing Modi as the architect of a developed India, Majhi called on the youth to actively engage in social service and contribute to nation-building.Addressing a mega blood donation camp organised at IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-III under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, chief minister said saving a life through blood donation reflected the highest human values. “No matter how far science advances, there is still no substitute for blood, nor can it be manufactured in any factory,” he said. Earlier in the day, he planted an Ashoka sapling at Lok Seva Bhavan.Extending birthday greetings to Modi on behalf of Odisha’s 4.5 crore people, Majhi said PM had transformed the nation through five decades of public service and 25 years of uninterrupted governance. He said the month-long campaign, inspired by Modi’s welfare-oriented ideals, was not merely a programme but a mass movement rooted in service and sacrifice.CM said the state govt was committed to ensuring that no life was lost due to a shortage of blood. The camp aims to collect more than 6,500 units of blood. To strengthen blood security, Govt has launched the Atal Blood Donation Campaign with a budget allocation of Rs 50.54 crore for 2026-27. The initiative includes setting up blood banks in new medical colleges and modernising existing facilities.Majhi said India had emerged as a major geopolitical and economic force under Modi’s leadership. He said defence imports had declined from 70% to 35%, while self-reliance in semiconductors and space technology was steadily growing. He expressed confidence that the goal of a developed India before 2047 would be achieved.Housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the occasion was a moment to recall Modi’s 25 years of selfless service and determination. Stressing the importance of blood donation in saving lives, he said a spirit of service and dedication was essential and expressed confidence that the camp would set a new state record for blood collection.Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal said Modi had set a remarkable record by serving as a public representative continuously for 25 years. He said Prime Minister’s service to ordinary people had earned him recognition across the world and that citizens should remember his contribution. Referring to blood shortages since the Covid-19 pandemic, Samal said the large-scale blood donation drive would help address the need.
