Bhubaneswar: With Odisha stepping up efforts to secure a larger role in India’s semiconductor ambitions, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi will engage with foreign delegates and prospective investors at Semicon India 2026 in New Delhi on Friday.Ahead of his departure on Thursday, Majhi said Odisha was steadily emerging as a key destination for semiconductor investments, backed by infrastructure development, a skilled talent pool and an investor-friendly ecosystem.“At a time when global semiconductor players are looking at India as an investment destination, Odisha has a significant opportunity. Our team is already in Delhi for the event and a roadshow has been planned on Friday. Delegations from Europe, Japan and South Korea will participate in the roadshow and explore investment opportunities in Odisha. I will also attend the event,” Majhi said at a function organised in Bhubaneswar to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.The CM said Odisha was on track to become a semiconductor hub in the country. “While construction is underway for six semiconductor projects in the state, one project is nearing completion,” he added.An Odisha delegation is already participating in the three-day Semicon India 2026 conclave at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, which began on Thursday. The event has brought together key stakeholders from the global semiconductor ecosystem, including industry leaders, govt representatives, technology experts, academics and students.A senior govt official said Majhi is scheduled to hold interactions with delegations from Sweden, Japan and Taiwan, while Odisha officials will participate in roundtable discussions with representatives from Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and South Korea. The official added that M/s Quad Quantum, a manufacturer of semiconductor-grade silicon carbide, is slated to sign a letter of intent with the Odisha govt during the event.Odisha’s semiconductor ambitions have received a major boost from recent developments in the sector. RIR Power Electronics has completed the installation of silicon carbide (SiC) epitaxial wafer manufacturing reactors at its facility in Bhubaneswar, marking the country’s first silicon carbide semiconductor manufacturing unit.In another key development, SiCSem Pvt Ltd’s Rs 3,406.25-crore semiconductor manufacturing project in Bhubaneswar has been cleared as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) unit by Unit Approval Committee. The facility, coming up at IDCO Infovalley-II near Bhubaneswar under Falta SEZ jurisdiction, is expected to generate exports worth Rs 7,043 crore and net foreign exchange earnings of about Rs 4,523 crore over the next five years.
