Bhubaneswar: The Centre has accepted the resignation of Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, paving the way for the Odisha govt to appoint his successor amid indications of an imminent police reshuffle.“The President is pleased to accept the resignation of Jagmohan Meena, IPS (OD: 2013), from the Indian Police Service with effect from Sept 11, 2026,” said a notification issued by the Union ministry of home affairs on Sept 11.TOI had first reported on July 6 that Meena submitted his resignation to the govt. The 37-year-old 2013-batch IPS officer later told the media that he wanted to quit government service for personal reasons.With Meena’s exit now formally accepted, sources in Odisha police said the govt is likely to appoint a new DCP soon as part of a broader reshuffle of SPs and other senior police officers.Officers from the 2015 and 2016 IPS batches, including Keonjhar SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu, Cuttack DCP Riskhikesh Khilari and Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, are being discussed as possible choices for the post. The govt may also opt for an interim arrangement before making a regular appointment, sources said.Retired police officer Santosh Mohanty said the capital needed an early appointment, particularly with the festive season approaching.“With the festive season nearing and street crimes on the rise, the govt should immediately appoint an efficient DCP for the capital city. Police visibility and public-connect initiatives, which have been lacking, should be given priority,” he said.
