Rourkela: Police on Thursday arrested three youths and detained a 17-year-old boy for allegedly raping two minor girls in Sundargarh district three days ago.According to police, four minor girls, including the two victims aged 14 and 15, had gone to attend a Karam Puja fair on Monday. While returning home in the evening, they were waiting near a school for a bus when five youths on three two-wheelers offered them a lift.One of the youths was reportedly known to one of the girls. The girls accepted the offer, but the youths allegedly diverted to a forested area on the pretext of dropping them home. Two of the girls managed to escape and run away from the spot. The remaining two girls were allegedly sexually assaulted by four of the five youths, police said. One of the youths is believed to have left the spot before the alleged assault.Police said the accused also threatened the victims before fleeing. The two girls who escaped alerted the families of the victims, following which relatives rushed to the area, rescued the girls and took them home.The victims approached the local police station late on Wednesday and lodged an FIR alleging gang rape. Police subsequently rounded up five suspects for questioning and registered a case.During the investigation, police allegedly found the involvement of four of the suspects in the assault. On Thursday, a 17-year-old boy was detained under the Juvenile Justice Act, while three others aged 18, 19 and 21 were arrested.Police seized a motorcycle and a scooter allegedly used in the crime and said another two-wheeler used to ferry the girls would also be seized.Medical examinations of both the victims and the accused were conducted on Thursday. Further investigation is underway.
