Bhubaneswar: More than 26% of women in the state have become self-reliant through entrepreneurship under the state govt’s flagship Subhadra scheme, according to assessments by IIM Sambalpur, SBI and NITI Aayog, deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said on Tuesday.Speaking at a news meet, Parida said Rs 25,800 crore had been transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 1.03 crore women beneficiaries in five instalments under the scheme.As Subhadra completes two years on Sept 17, the state govt plans to mark the occasion with celebrations centred on women’s empowerment. Parida appealed to people across the state to light lamps at their homes on the day, saying the occasion should be observed as a celebration of women’s empowerment, dignity and self-respect.Special programmes will also be organised at all ICDS projects, anganwadi centres and CDPO offices across the state, she said.The govt will also provide another opportunity to women who missed out on registering for the scheme. The Subhadra portal will reopen on April 1, 2027, for a month to allow fresh applicants to register, Parida said.On grievances received under the scheme, Parida said the govt had come across cases of women genuinely in need of financial assistance but unable to receive the benefit because some members of their families had either filed income tax returns or owned five acres of land.“To examine these complaints, we have six months’ time during which field staff will conduct inspections. Based on the recommendations of the block- and district-level committees of the Subhadra scheme, a final call on these complaints would be taken,” she said.The govt, she said, would also continue its efforts to make Odisha malnutrition-free through Poshan Abhiyan, with the broader goal of building a Suposhit Odisha.Launched in Sept 2024, Subhadra is the state govt’s flagship women-focused welfare scheme, under which eligible women receive financial assistance through direct bank transfers.
