Bhubaneswar: A quarrel between two inebriated brothers over speaking loudly on the phone turned deadly in Chandaka here early on Wednesday, with the siblings allegedly hurling crude bombs at each other, leaving one dead and the other critically injured.Mohan Padhi (26) died, while his younger brother Madan (24) sustained serious injuries. Police said that both brothers, who were daily-wagers, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.Injured Madan was initially rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition worsened.Police sources said he is out of danger. “We will arrest him once he is discharged,” said ACP (zone-VI) Manas Ranjan Pradhan.According to Pradhan, Madan was speaking on his phone in his room when Mohan asked him to lower his voice. The request led to an argument that soon escalated into a physical fight.Family members reportedly tried to intervene but could not stop the fight. Police said Mohan then allegedly picked up a crude bomb kept inside the house and hurled it at Madan who sustained injuries to his left hand while trying to protect himself. He then allegedly retaliated by picking up two crude bombs and throwing them at Mohan, striking him on the head. Mohan died on the spot, police said.Police are probing the presence of crude bombs inside the house and their intended use. “According to family members and villagers, the explosives were allegedly stored to ward off wild animals like boars and elephants that often stray into human habitations from the nearby Chandaka forest. We are trying to find out if the explosives were stored for any criminal purposes or not,” ACP Pradhan said.Police personnel, however, did not find any bomb-making material at the house, suggesting that the explosives were not manufactured there, he added.
