RANGIA: A woman was found dead with injury marks on her throat in a hotel near Rangia railway station in Assam’s Kamrup district on Sunday, a police officer said.A man who had booked the hotel room and was found inside with the woman’s body was arrested on murder charges, a police officer told news agency PTI.The victim was identified from her Aadhaar card as Malini Guria, a resident of Asurmarigaon village in Sonitpur district, the officer said.According to hotel owner Dhrubajyoti Saloi, the accused, Avijit Kindo, had booked two rooms at the hotel on Saturday evening, saying three of his friends would stay in one room while he would stay in the other.On Sunday morning, two women staying in one of the rooms were preparing to leave when they told the hotel staff that their friend in the other room was not responding to their calls, although a man was answering, police said.The hotel owner knocked on the door, but the occupant refused to open it. He then immediately alerted the police.A police team reached the hotel and compelled the occupant to open the door, where they found the woman’s blood-stained body lying on the bed with injury marks on her throat, the officer said.A piece of cloth was found hanging from the ceiling fan, while the man was sitting on the bed with scissors and a screwdriver, he added.According to officer-in-charge of Rangia Police Station Mintu Baro, the accused, who has been taken into custody, confessed to the crime before police.Preliminary inquiry suggests that the crime may be linked to a love affair, police said.The officer said the women had come from Chennai, where they work for a private company.(With agency inputs)
