Kendrapada: A headmaster of a govt primary school in Kendrapada district was suspended on Wednesday after he was allegedly found drunk on the campus and accused of locking students inside the premises before falling asleep.The headmaster, Sunakar Nayak, is posted at Ambura Government Primary School in Ambura village under Kurujanga panchayat in Derabish block. According to reports, he allegedly consumed liquor and food inside the school on Tuesday after locking the main entrance gate and later fell asleep. With the school gate locked, frightened students began crying, prompting local residents to rush to the school. Villagers reportedly opened the gate and rescued the children.Photographs purportedly showing liquor bottles and food on the headmaster’s table soon went viral on social media, sparking outrage and drawing the attention of education authorities.The school has around 35 students from Classes I to V and two teachers, including the headmaster. On the day of the incident, Nayak was reportedly the only teacher present as the other teacher was on leave.Derabish’s block education officer Madan Mohan Kar said he visited the school and conducted an inquiry after learning about the matter. “The headmaster was found to have frequently attended school in an inebriated state. On Tuesday, he allegedly consumed liquor on the school premises and illegally locked the main entrance. He has been placed under suspension,” Kar added.
