Former CJI Dipak Misra receives Kalinga Ratna, reflects on roots and constitutional values

Cuttack: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Dipak Misra on Sunday stressed the values of fraternity, human dignity and peace after receiving the prestigious Kalinga Ratna Award from literary organisation Sarala Sahitya Sansad at Sarala Bhawan here.Accepting the award, which carries a silver idol of Goddess Saraswati and a citation, Justice Misra reflected on his roots and the enduring bond between an individual and their birthplace. He said people may travel far in life, but their native soil continues to shape their identity, memories and cultural inheritance.Speaking on constitutional values, Justice Misra described “fraternity” in the Preamble as a moral bond that transcends caste, creed, language and social status. He said the dignity of an individual cannot be protected by undermining the dignity of others, stressing the importance of mutual respect and humanity.He also spoke against war, saying conflicts may produce victors but rarely bring lasting peace. Referring to anti-war literature, he said wars leave behind suffering, hatred and generations scarred by loss.On the occasion, the Sansad also conferred the Sarala Samman on eminent litterateur Dr Ramachandra Behera in recognition of his contributions to Odia literature spanning more than six decades.The award ceremony, presided over by Sarala Sahitya Sansad founder-president Er Pravakar Swain, was attended by state law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan as chief guest, among others.
