Bhubaneswar: Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri has secured trademark protection for three more words— Shree Mandira, Ratna Bhandar and Shree Nahar, SJTA chief administrator Arabinda Kumar Padhee said on Tuesday.Padhee said the three names, closely associated with Lord Jagannath and the shrine, have been accepted for publication by the Trade Marks Registry of the Intellectual Property (IP) India, paving the way for their registration as wordmarks under the Trade Marks Act.IP India operates under the Union ministry of commerce and industry’s department for promotion of industry and internal trade.The latest development comes after the temple administration earlier secured IP protection for eight of 29 trademark applications filed — Ananda Bajara, Patitapabana, Jagannath Dham, Shree Kshetra, Mahaprasada, Nilachakra and Koili Vaikuntha, besides the Nilachakra logo. “Our objective is to safeguard religious, cultural and institutional heritage associated with the 12th-century shrine and prevent unauthorised or inappropriate commercial exploitation of its distinctive names and identities,” said Padhee.
