Bhubaneswar: A zoo of the Czech Republic will donate two female red Kangaroos to Nandankanan Zoological Park soon, while two pairs of zebras will also come from another country, which is yet to be selected by a Hyderabad-based private agency engaged by the zoo. Nandankanan has neither a zebra nor red kangaroo.The Nandankanan authorities said Zájezd Zoo of the Czech Republic has formally given its consent in writing, after which they wrote to Central Zoo Authority (CZA) seeking approval. “It has been confirmed by the Zájezd Zoo that they will give us two female red kangaroos. To house them in Nandankanan, an enclosure is being readied. For the zebras, the enclosure will be created soon,” said deputy director Pradeep Mirase.The red kangaroos will most likely be transported by air. The modalities for bringing the zebra are yet to be finalised, the zoo officer added.Besides, the city zoo is also getting ready to welcome cheetahs.Nandankanan authorities said after CZA approval, they will seek permission from the director general of foreign trade (DGFT) to bring cheetahs through a trans-oceanic voyage. “We have formally written to CZA to get its approval for the cheetah project. It is a prerequisite to get DGFT permission to bring animals from a foreign nation,” said the official.Earlier, Nandankanan authorities had confirmed that one pair each of male and female African Cheetahs will be transported in a ship to Odisha rather than a cargo plane.
