Cuttack: Mystery shrouds the death of a 20-year-old girl, who qualified the NEET exam recently. Her body was found in a canal in Cuttack district’s Nemalo area on Thursday, days after her family lodged a missing person complaint. The deceased was identified as Shrabani Das.Locals spotted the body floating in Mulusuhanga canal in the afternoon and alerted the authorities. A fire-fighting team along with police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body, around 800 metres from her house. Police said Shrabani had left her home on Tuesday morning but did not return. Following this, her family lodged a missing person complaint at Nemalo police station.The circumstances leading to her death, including how she reached the canal, remain unclear. Police are examining all possible angles. A scientific team has collected samples and other evidences from the spot. The samples have been sent to a laboratory for examination.“The body has been sent for autopsy and the report is expected to throw more light on the cause and circumstances of her death,” said SP, Cuttack Rural, Vinit Agrawal. Action would be taken based on the post-mortem findings, forensic examination and other evidences, added Agrawal.“The death of the young woman, who had qualified NEET, has triggered concern in the area, with police yet to establish whether the incident was accidental, suicidal or involved any other circumstances,” said Saroj Das, a resident of Nemalo.
