When Arvid Lindblad takes to the track at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday, he will be carrying more than just the colours of Racing Bulls. He will also be carrying memories of family Diwali celebrations, childhood traditions and a deep connection to his Indian roots. With Diwali falling on race day this year, the Formula One rookie has unveiled a special Diwali-inspired helmet that pays tribute to the festival of lights and the grandparents who helped make it such an important part of his life. For Lindblad, whose maternal family hails from India, Diwali was never just another date on the calendar. It was a time spent with his Nani and Nana, creating rangoli patterns, lighting diyas and celebrating together. Those memories have now found their way onto a Formula One helmet that he hopes will resonate with people celebrating Diwali across the world.“Celebrating Diwali with my family, especially my Nani and Nana, has always been a very important part of my upbringing,” Lindblad said. “Bringing this special helmet to life is a meaningful moment, as it celebrates my Indian heritage and family roots that are such an important part of who I am.”The design is rich with symbolism. Rangoli patterns inspired by those he has created during family celebrations form the centrepiece of the artwork, while diyas, lotus flowers and fireworks reflect the spirit of Diwali. A Phulkari-inspired pattern around the base serves as a tribute to his grandmother’s Punjabi heritage. What makes the helmet particularly special is Lindblad’s personal involvement in the design process. Rather than simply wearing a commemorative livery, he worked closely on every detail to ensure it reflected both the traditions of Diwali and his own story.“I wanted to create something that felt cool, while staying true to the meaning and traditions of Diwali,” he said.Racing Bulls has also embraced the celebration. Lindblad’s side of the garage in Brazil will feature Diwali-themed touches, including rangoli-inspired artwork and a “Happy Diwali” message on his car.For a young driver chasing his dreams at motorsport’s highest level, the weekend offers a chance to celebrate where he comes from. And as millions mark Diwali around the world, Lindblad’s helmet will bring a small piece of that celebration onto one of sport’s biggest stages.
