Bhubaneswar: Water samples collected from all 12 overhead tanks in girls’ hostel-7 of Utkal University have tested negative for hepatitis A, prompting authorities to now focus on possible food contamination as the source behind the recent jaundice outbreak.Papesh Kumar Lenka, assistant professor of sociology and university spokesperson, said water test reports have come and no contamination was detected. “We did not find any problem in the water. We are now waiting for the results of the food samples sent for testing,” Lenka said.He said the canteen of hostel-7 has been kept closed for the past two days as a precautionary step. Meals for hostel boarders are currently being supplied from hostel-5. “We suspect contaminated food might be the reason behind the jaundice outbreak,” Lenka said.
