Keonjhar: Women from Singpur village in Banspal block staged an hour-long blockade on the Kusakala-Rourkela Road on Saturday morning demanding that Vasudha drinking water project be made operational. The project has remained defunct for the past few months due to the non-functioning of four pumps, depriving the village of a regular piped water supply.BDO (Banspal) Raja Ranjit Pratap Bal said the villagers had not informed the administration about the problem. “The project is being run under the Vasudha scheme of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation department. Two of the four defunct pumps have been repaired immediately and water supply has resumed. The remaining two will be repaired soon,” he said.Vasudha scheme aims to provide safe drinking water to rural households through piped water supply systems.
