Jemimah Rodrigues to lead Mumbai in Super League stage of Senior Women's T20 Trophy

MUMBAI : India women’s team batter Jemimah Rodrigues will lead Mumbai in the upcoming Super League stage of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. The Super League will be played in Ahmedabad from November 14.Rodrigues had smashed 107 off just 47 balls against Pondicherry in their sixth and last match of the league stage of the Senior Women’s T20 in Pune on Friday to star in Mumbai’s 83-run victory. Rodrigues’ century took Mumbai to the Super League stage of the tournament.Returning from a four-month layoff from the game due to a hamstring injury, Rodrigues had scored 58 off 41 balls against Delhi and 26 not out off 19 balls against Uttar Pradesh in a nine-over game.“Jemi’s century yesterday was quite good, because the ball wasn’t coming nicely on the bat. There was low bounce, it wasn’t a flat pitch, but she placed the ball well, piercing the gap between two fielders, instead of trying to hit the ball hard. She played very smartly; it was a smartly built innings, as, realising the nature of the wicket, she didn’t want to go for big shots. She came to bat in the fifth over of the innings and started off with two paddle sweeps, which got her two twos, and then gave us the necessary momentum. She paced her knock well and got to her century in the last over,” Mumbai Women’s team head coach Ajay Kadam told TOI.Interestingly, despite being the Delhi Capitals captain, Rodrigues wasn’t the Mumbai skipper in the league stage of the tournament, as she joined the team late. Mumbai were captained by Manali Dakshini. “Jemimah was fine with that. She has no issues with that. She’s a team player,” Kadam said.Praising the impact of Rodrigues on the team, Kadam said, “Jemimah has definitely added a lot of energy to our dressing room. She has gained vast experience by now. Her presence matters a lot. The girls look up to her. She joined the team after a few matches, but since then, has played her role very well. She has lifted the team to a whole new level, given them confidence. She is a star.”
