Berhampur: A 33-year-old farmer from S Nuagaon in Ganjam district’s Kabisuryanagar allegedly died by suicide after consuming pesticide on Thursday, with his family linking his death to the destruction of standing crops in the recent floods. The deceased was identified as Bulu Mallick.Mallick had cultivated vegetables on his land, but the standing crop was completely washed away in the floods triggered by heavy rain in the aftermath of cyclonic storm Arnab on Oct 28. “He was deeply depressed after seeing the condition of his crops. That might have prompted him to take the extreme step,” a relative said.
