NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India‘s Rs 169-crore data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, officials said.Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in a social media post on Saturday that the facility would add to Odisha’s development journey. “The visit of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji to Odisha and the inauguration of RBI’s state-of-the-art data centre will not only strengthen the state’s digital infrastructure but also give new momentum to the security of the country’s financial data and the growth of the digital economy,” he said in the post on Saturday.Majhi added that the RBI’s data centre at Jatni would be the second of its kind, after the one in Navi Mumbai. The PM last visited the state four months ago, when he attended an event marking two years of the BJP government in Odisha. PTI reported.Officials said the facilities have been designed to meet the central bank’s computing requirements and to offer a secure, resilient, scalable and future-ready computing ecosystem for the bank and the wider financial sector.According to a government statement, the data centre will house mission-critical payment and settlement systems, besides other flagship initiatives. It will help widen the reach, efficiency and reliability of digital financial services, and will serve as the secure digital foundation on which India’s increasingly technology-driven financial economy can grow, the statement said.Similarly, the Cybersecurity Training Institute will strengthen capability building by providing a dedicated institutional platform for cybersecurity and enterprise-technology training, research and sector-wide capability development, it added. The RBI facility is spread over 18.55 acres. Its foundation stone was laid on March 22, 2023, by the then RBI governor Shaktikanta Das. An official said the site at Info Valley-II was selected for its geographical stability, as it lies away from seismically active zones and high-risk international border areas, thereby reducing exposure to natural disasters and geopolitical vulnerabilities.
