A transgender man and his wife are preparing to welcome their first child together after undergoing IVF using his eggs, frozen before his transition, and her womb. Taylor Winters, 42, and his wife Chloe, 33, are expecting a baby girl in January 2027 after a challenging fertility journey that included an unsuccessful first IVF attempt.Taylor, who began his medical transition in his 30s, had frozen his eggs before starting testosterone because he wanted to have biological children, although he had never imagined himself carrying a pregnancy. The couple used a sperm donor to conceive, with Chloe carrying the baby. Their journey has now brought them closer to fulfilling their dream of starting a family.

Speaking about the experience, Chloe, a social media manager from Watford, Hertfordshire, explained that the couple had to undergo hormone treatment before beginning IVF. Their first embryo transfer took place in March 2026 but was unsuccessful, leaving them devastated. However, they were determined to try again without waiting too long. The couple underwent another round of IVF in May 2026, which resulted in a successful pregnancy.Chloe told SWNS that the wait for the pregnancy test was particularly emotional. Recalling the moment they discovered the treatment had worked, she said they woke up at around 5 am on the day they were due to test because they could not sleep the night before.“It was amazing and such an amazing feeling especially after having such devastating news the first time around,” she said.

Taylor grew up in Transylvania, Romania, and said he knew from the age of five that he was a boy. He recalled cutting his hair, refusing to wear skirts and trying to urinate like boys. According to him, his parents were supportive. He later moved to Germany in March 2014 before relocating to the UK in March 2015 following the breakdown of his relationship at the time. It was in the UK that he began exploring his transition more seriously and met Chloe in 2016.After undergoing psychological assessments and other tests, Taylor began taking testosterone in November 2017, aged 34. Before starting hormone therapy, he decided to freeze his eggs because he had always wanted the possibility of having biological children.Taylor subsequently underwent top surgery in October 2019 and a hysterectomy in November 2023.Speaking about his transition, he described the experience as liberating, particularly after undergoing top surgery.“It was amazing not having to hide my chest – to go the beach and not have to wear a bra,” he said.

Taylor and Chloe have also discussed expanding their family in the future. They hope to have another child using Chloe’s eggs and the same sperm donor, allowing both partners to have a biological connection to their children.Explaining his decision to preserve his fertility before transitioning, Taylor said he had always wanted biological children but had never wanted to experience pregnancy himself.“We’re using both our eggs to start a family so we each have a biological connection,” he said.Chloe said having a family of their own had always been important to her and that IVF had given them an opportunity to fulfil that dream.“Having IVF as an option for us is such a blessing. We both have a lot of love to give and have the best family and support around us, and our children would always be loved and accepted for who they are,” she said. She also emphasised that being transgender does not prevent someone from building a loving relationship and family.“You can be in a healthy and happy relationship if you’re transgender,” Chloe added.

Chloe is currently 24 weeks pregnant and said the pregnancy has been progressing well. The couple have been documenting the growth of her baby bump and enjoying regular scans, including seeing their baby’s heartbeat. She described the experience as exciting, although the journey to parenthood had been long and emotionally demanding.Taylor has supported Chloe throughout the process, attending every appointment and helping her through the pregnancy.“For me, I’ve been there supporting and I’ve been to every single appointment and supporting her as much as I can. She’s going through it, it’s the least I can do,” he said.As they prepare to welcome their baby girl in January 2027, Taylor said he was looking forward to the moment he could finally hold his child.“The feeling of holding our baby girl for the first time is just going to be amazing,” he said.
