‘Won’t be silenced’: Ilhan Omar reacts after US agents raid her home ahead of midterms
Democratic US Representative Ilhan Omar.

Democratic US Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday accused the Donald Trump administration of political intimidation after federal agents searched her Washington-area home as part of a criminal investigation, with reports linking the probe to allegations of immigration fraud involving her family.“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar said in a post on X following the search. She alleged that Trump had targeted her for years through “baseless lies and smear campaigns” and called the raid the latest escalation in what she described as a campaign of political intimidation.“I will not be silenced,” the Minnesota congresswoman added.According to the Associated Press, the search came less than a month before the November midterm elections, in which Omar is seeking re-election. The timing drew criticism from senior Democrats, who questioned the decision to conduct a high-profile investigative action so close to the polls. The Department of Justice said Homeland Security Investigations had executed a judicially authorised search warrant in the Washington DC area as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Authorities have not publicly clarified the full scope of the probe.Fox News, citing two sources close to the investigation, reported that the search was linked to allegations concerning Omar’s immigration paperwork, which her late father reportedly completed when she was a child.Omar has repeatedly denied allegations against her and her family. The claims have been raised by Trump and his allies for months, with administration officials previously indicating that federal investigators were examining her immigration history.Trump said on Monday that he had nothing to do with the search and that the investigation was a matter for the Justice Department. He nevertheless described Omar as “totally crooked”, while insisting his comments had nothing to do with the probe. The search also prompted a political backlash over its timing. Senior congressional Democrats accused the administration of using federal law enforcement against a political opponent ahead of a crucial election.Trump later attacked Omar’s Somali origins at a rally in Ohio, saying she came from “one of the worst countries anywhere on the planet”. Some members of the crowd responded by chanting “Deport”.Omar, a Somali-born US citizen and one of the country’s most prominent Somali-American politicians, has faced repeated attacks from Trump over her background and political views. The allegations surrounding her family’s immigration history remain contested, and the authorities have not publicly established that Omar committed immigration fraud.
