BARIPADA: A couple died after falling ill following a funeral feast in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, police said.The incident took place at Chaturisahi village under Bishoi police station limits.The deceased were identified as Bhanja Sirka (35) and his wife, Biranga Naik (27), residents of the Similipal area, a police officer said.The couple returned home on Saturday night after attending a funeral feast in the village, he said.Around 3 am, both complained of severe abdominal pain. Their relatives took them to Manada Community Health Centre, where Sirka died, police said.His wife was later shifted to Rairangpur hospital in critical condition. She died shortly after being admitted to the medical facility, Bishoi police station inspector-in-charge Subarna Behera said.Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, he said.“Contaminated food is suspected to be the cause of their death, though the exact reason can be ascertained after obtaining the post-mortem report and completion of the investigation,” Behera said.Meanwhile, locals have urged the district administration to provide assistance for the care of the couple’s two minor children.(With Agency Inputs)
