NEW DELHI: West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh has questioned what Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Delhi would achieve, as news of the former West Bengal CM arriving in the national capital heightened anticipation over an INDIA bloc meeting with President Droupadi Murmu on Election Commission functioning and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).“Go to Delhi, come back, practice as much as you want, there is no objection. But what is it going to achieve? What is going to happen in Bengal? In Bengal, there is no Opposition left. The people elected them to sit in the Opposition, but instead of playing their role, they are going to Delhi. What is the point?” Ghosh said.

However, there was no confirmation as of Wednesday night on whether the appointment had been granted.The opposition bloc had sought a meeting on any day between October 7 and 9 and was awaiting confirmationThe decision to write to President Murmu was taken at an INDIA bloc meeting on September 30. The bloc subsequently wrote seeking time to raise its concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and SIR.The reply from Rashtrapati Bhavan said the legislative department would look into the petition and communicate the action taken directly to the petitioner.
