Bhubaneswar: The city police on Thursday arrested two DJ system owners, holding them responsible for the death of a man after a roadside building slab collapsed during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Jatni last week. Police said music played beyond the permissible sound limit generated intense vibrations, leading to the structural failure. The accused were identified as Arun Kumar Pradhan (26) of Dhenkanal district and Priyabrata Dash (31) of Balasore district.“Their DJ music systems have been seized. During investigation, it was ascertained that they violated norms of Orissa Fireworks and Loudspeakers (Regulation) Act, 1958, and played music beyond the prescribed sound limit. The vibrations led to the structure’s collapse,” police said in a statement. The accused have been booked under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 5 of the Orissa Fireworks and Loudspeakers (Regulation) Act, 1958, police added.According to police, the tragedy occurred late on Sept 27, when a large crowd had gathered to watch the immersion procession.
