Berhampur: A day before his retirement, vigilance officials on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old assistant executive engineer attached to DRDA, Malkangiri, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.The accused, Shishir Kumar Dash, attached to DRDA Malkangiri and earlier posted in Mathili block, was found to have amassed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2.35 crore, allegedly amounting to 160% of his known sources of income, vigilance said.“During the check period from Nov 11, 1998, to Sept 27, 2026, Dash earned around Rs 1.47 crore but incurred expenditure exceeding Rs 1.23 crore. His total assets were found to be more than Rs 2.59 crore, which he could not satisfactorily account for,” said Berhampur vigilance SP Pradeep Kumar Pradhan.Searches conducted by vigilance unearthed two multi-storeyed buildings, six high-value plots, including three in Berhampur and one each in Puri, Khurda and Gobara in Ganjam district, bank and insurance deposits worth around Rs 82 lakh, 136 grams of gold, household articles valued at about Rs 16 lakh, and a four-wheeler, among other assets.Vigilance officers alleged that Dash’s personal wealth grew during his service by acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.Dash joined govt service as a junior engineer at Kunduli block in Koraput district on Nov 11, 1998. He was promoted as AEE in Feb this year, posted to Mathili block in April and later attached to DRDA Malkangiri.He was due to retire from govt service on Wednesday.A case has been registered against Dash and his wife under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Vigilance officers alleged that his wife assisted him in acquisition of assets. Further investigation is underway.
