Bhubaneswar: The state police have sought the govt’s intervention to direct the state-run Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) to restore 828 non-functional CCTV cameras installed at several police stations and outposts immediately.In a letter to the home department on Saturday, the state police headquarters said CCTV surveillance systems were installed at 645 police stations and 263 outposts in compliance with Supreme Court directions. However, 795 cameras at police stations and 33 at outposts are currently offline.The letter also sought release of Rs 76 crore under the supplementary budget, which was earmarked for the CCTV installations but was surrendered during 2025-26. It is required to facilitate payments to OCAC and meet expenses towards maintenance and restoration of the surveillance systems, the letter read.According to sources, OCAC had installed 16,672 cameras at the police stations covered under the surveillance system. “Necessary directions may be issued to OCAC for the immediate restoration and functioning of the non-operational cameras,” the letter stated.
